Welcome to the official Website of the Embassy of the Republic of Mauritius to Switzerland & the Permanent Mission to the United Nations and Other International Organisations in Geneva.

Mauritius achieved independence on 12 March 1968 and became a Republic within the British Commonwealth on 12 March 1992. Mauritius joined the United Nations Organisation on 24 April 1968 as the 124th Member. Mauritius recognises the utmost importance of the United Nations in the furtherance of international peace and security and global development.

In addition to its membership to the Commonwealth, Mauritius is a member of various international and regional organisations and groupings, including the African Union (AU), Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Group of 77 and China, Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Southern African Development Community (SADC), African Caribbean and Pacific Groups of States (ACP) and Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF). Mauritius is a founding member of the Indian Ocean Rim-Association for Regional Cooperation (IORA). Mauritius is also an associate member of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLC) and an observer to South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

Mauritius is a founding member of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and also participates actively in the deliberations at the level of UN Office in Geneva (UNOG), including UNCTAD, WHO, ICRC/IFRC, ILO, lTC, ITU, HRC, WIPO, WMO, IPU, IOM/GFMD, UNAIDS, UNISDR, Disarmament Issues, and various groupings such as African Group, ACP, SVEs, SIDS, G33, and G90 among others. The Permanent Mission is also accredited to UN Office in Vienna (UNOV) and it covers the activities of the UNODC, UNIDO, UNCITRAL and IAEA.

  • Mauritius' bilateral engagement with Switzerland;

  • Mauritius' initiatives and contributions to the United Nations and its specialised agencies and other international organisations in Geneva and Vienna; and

  • Consular services to Mauritian nationals residing in Switzerland and to Swiss nationals as well as other nationals residing in Switzerland.
