WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

All Citizens of Mauritius, either by Birth, Descent, Adoption, Registration or Naturalization, are eligible for a Mauritius Passport, provided that they satisfy all conditions prescribed by law.

Travel Document for Mauritius (TD)

Travel Document is a “Laissez-Passer" (is not a temporary passport) which is valid for one way single trip to Mauritius only.  A Travel Document is issued to the Applicant in the following situations:

  1.  If Mauritius Passport has been expired or lost or stolen or damaged and the Applicant has to travel to Mauritius urgently;
  2.  TD is also issued to newly born child (of either one or both parents being Mauritian Citizen/s by Birth at the time of birth of the child) and the child needs to travel to Mauritius urgently with the parents.

Conditions to be Satisfied for Right of Admission in Mauritius:

Any person entering Mauritius must:

»Hold a valid passport or any other recognized travel document, with expiry date beyond the intended period of stay.
»Hold the appropriate Visa or Entry/Residence Permit as applicable.
»Hold a valid return/onward passage ticket to his/her country of origin or residence.
»Have sufficient funds to meet the costs of stay in Mauritius (A minimum of 100 U.S Dollars per day).  Debit and Credit Cards (with appropriate bank statements) are also acceptable and should be produced when requested.
»Be eligible to re-enter his/her country of origin or residence.
»

Have a confirmed booking for accommodation in Mauritius or an invitation letter from a Mauritian citizen (sponsored).

 

If sponsored by a Mauritian citizen, the latter to submit the following:

(a)    A Letter of Sponsorship stating:

  1. name, address
  2. telephone number
  3. profession of the sponsor and
  4. relationship with the applicant

     

(b)    Mauritius National Identity Card

(c)     A Utility Bill (for proof of address)

Foreigners should not engage in any gainful activities in Mauritius without a valid work permit.

The final decision to admit a non-Citizen rests with the Immigration Officer after examination at the point of entry in Mauritius.  S/he decides how long the visitor can stay for any particular visit.

Travel to Mauritius with a Temporary Passport of Switzerland

 

Voyage à Maurice avec un passeport temporaire (provisoire) de la Suisse

 

Swiss Temporary Passport (emergency passport) is acceptable by the Passport and Immigration Office in Mauritius, only if the Passport is valid for more than the period of stay in Mauritius.  There is NO need to have a passport valid for six months.

Visa Requirements for holders of Kosovo Passport.  Kosovo Passport Holders need a visa to enter Mauritius

 

Holders of a Kosovo Passport must apply for a visa at least one month prior to their departure for Mauritius
